Information about Nation Waterway 1
For centuries the rivers have been used for transporting goods and people from one place to another place, even today, transport of heavy goods through waterways is inexpensive and less polluting than road or rail. Until a century ago, the Ganges river was also a busy waterway, with the development of the railway it was almost in unused, but now the situation is changing.
However, about 1620 kilometres from Tirthraj Prayag to Haldia was declared a National Waterway in 1986, but no specific progress has been made towards its development, but after the arrival of the present government, efforts are being made to develop this water route. In the first phase under the water route development project, 1390 km of the national waterway from Varanasi to Haldia is being developed with the technical and economic support of the World Bank. The cost of this project is Rs. 5369 crores.
Through the multi-model terminal in the natural resources-rich state of Jharkhand, new entrances will be opened in the direction of development and employment. This model will cost Rs 467.9 crores. This project will connect Jharkhand to the world through the Bay of Bengal. From here raw material of Rajmahal and Charita can be sent out to other nation.
Multi-Model terminal development in Sahibganj region is a new hope because 1.5 lakh new jobs will be created locally. After being thoroughly prepared in 2022, National Waterway 1 will bring a new identity to the river Ganga.A complete list of Nation Waterways In India with full specification.
