Maternity Benefit Act of 1961 (Amendment 2017)
Worlds Bank’s India development report 2017 has shown Indian woman has the lowest participation in the workforce.
And those who participate have to leave their job on being pregnant. Maternity benefit act 1961(amendment 2017) is an answer to this.
Benefits of Maternity benefit act 1961(amendment 2017)
It will provide security of job thus reducing fear, stress, trauma from the mind of women and also enhance India’s global image when it comes to gender diversity.
If an organization have less than ten employees than it is not applicable to the organization.
The women now have 26 weeks maternity benefits for the first two children & 12 weeks for the 3rd child.
When the term of 26 weeks expires then the women can work from home if there is consensus blow her & the employee.
The leaves will be paid ones.
If the government wouldn’t provide compensation to the employes when they great paid leave to women, then their restraint from hiring woman employes than making the whole purpose of maternity benefit vague.
Though India has stepped in a right direction still there are many steps before it can reach the top hence woman empowerment measures needs to evolve and implemented regularly.
