9th BRICS Summit was Held in Xiamen, China and 10th BRICS Summit will be held in Johannesburg (South Africa) and the theme for 10th BRICS Summit is “Collaboration for inclusive growth and shared prosperity in the 4th industrial revolution.”
The 9th BRICS summit was held on 3-5 September in Xiamen, a city of China. BRICS is a grouping of the world’s emerging and developing economies and consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

This summit assumes special significance in view of the Doklam dispute between India and China, a situation that threatened the outbreak of a full-scale war between the two Asian giants. But thank God, good sense prevailed on the Chinese leadership which came forward to resolve the crisis after more than two months’ standoff. India reciprocated the gesture and the impending crisis was staved off.
What Is BRICS
BRICS is the acronym for an association Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. At the time of formation, its name was “BRIC” after joining South Africa as a member and changed BRIC to BRICS The term “BRIC” was coined in 2001 by then-chairman of Goldman Sachs Asset Management, Jim O’Neill.
